The New Orleans Hornets will finally carry at least one more player above the league minimum for team rosters. The Hornets had been carrying 13 players. This means when the team officially signs Dominic McGuire, they will not have to make a corresponding roster move.
John Reid of the New Orleans Times-Picayune says the team will sign McGuire to provide depth with the injury suffered by Jason Smith. Smith is out with a torn labrum, and the team needed some front court help. McGuire could provide that.
Smith suffered the injury last Wednesday night when he attempted to block a dunk. The torn labrum diagnosis was confirmed yesterday. With the injury, the Hornets will need to come up with an additional 8.0 points per game.
McGuire last played with the Toronto Raptors this season. He averaged just 2.1 points per game with the Raptors in 15 games. In his career, McGuire has averaged 2.8 points per game. He was drafted by the Washington Wizards in the second round of the 2007 draft. Since then, McGuire has bounced between five different teams.
