Chauncey Billups missed nearly ten months after tearing his achilles tendon last year. Upon return, Billups has only been able to get into three games this season, and now he's injured again. Billups sat out last nights game between the Los Angeles Clippers and the Dallas Mavericks with a foot injury.
According to Melissa Rohlin of the Los Angeles Times, Billups has an inflamed tendon in his left foot. He has told everyone that it has nothing to do with his achilles injury.
"It has no relation to the Achilles at all," Billups said. "It's a peroneal tendon that's kind of below the ankle bone, not behind the Achilles. It's not related to it at all."
Rohlin says Billups was asked about a timeline for return, but he said there wasn't one. The veteran guard just returned to the court last week, so this injury is certainly frustrating to al involved, especially Billups. He said the foot started bothering him in his third game back to the court against the Utah Jazz.
Billups is 36 years old and has been in the league for 16 seasons. He has averaged 15.5 points per game in his career to go along with 5.5 assists per game. Billups is a five-time All-Star. The Clippers could use his contribution consistently this season, but now they are in wait and see mode. Once a timetable for Billups return is established, the Clippers can start planning around it.
