How in the world are the Minnesota TImberwolves winning? Last night marked the fourth-straight game in which the team saw a player go down to injury. Yet, they don't stop winning. Last night, Nikola Pekovic went down with what appears to be an ankle sprain, but the Wolves beat the Dallas Mavericks 90-82.
According to Jerry Zgoda of the Minnesota Star-Tribune, Pekovic sprained his ankle after stepping on Vince Carter's foot in the third quarter. He left the game and was unable to return. While Pekovic doesn't consider the injury serious, he is the sixth Wolves' player to go down to injury this season.
Minnesota improved to 5-2 last season despite being without their star Kevin Love and now five other players. Pekovic may have to miss more time depending on the extent of the sprain, but he will be evaluated further today. If the team has to play without Pekovic, they will likely go with a combination of Andre Kirilenko and Alexey Shved.
Pekovic, or Big Pek as he's called, has averaged 9.2 points per game and 4.9 rebounds per game in his career. But the 26-year old is in just his third NBA season and is continuing to get better. So far this season, he is averaging 15.3 points per game and 6.0 rebounds per game.
