It's been a while since the Los Angeles Lakers have won a game. They lost every one of their preseason games and have now lost their first two regular season games. To top things off, they saw Steve Nash go down to an injury - hopefully a minor injury.
According to Dave McMenamin of ESPN Los Angeles, Nash suffered a lower leg contusion in the second quarter of last night's game. He was unable to return to the game after the injury and will be re-evaluated today, but the team hopes the injury is not serious.
Nash played 16 minutes and scored two points to go along with four assists. He has not had much impact on the first two games this season. The Lakers brought Nash on to run the team with a true point guard. So far, Nash has had trouble getting the ball to open players and has seen limited assists. Of course, in yesterday's game he only played two quarters.
The Lakers play next on Friday against the Los Angeles Clippers. Nash was not quite ready to say whether he could go on Friday or not.
"I guess I wouldn't want to say right now (whether he will play) but I'm definitely hopeful," Nash told reporters after the game.Nash is in his 17th NBA season. At 38 years old, he does not have quite the same skills as when he was younger, and he generally takes longer to recover from injury. For a team that has already been hit hard by injuries, the Lakers can only hope Nash returns Friday. Los Angeles is only two games into the season and has had to fight through Jordan Hill's injury, Dwight Howard's return from back surgery, and Kobe Bryant's foot injury.
