The Los Angeles Clippers have numerous injury concerns on their roster. Most prominent is the injuries to Blake Grifin that we covered earlier today. But Griffin is as least on the court. The Clippers have guys who have yet to suit up and take to the hardwood. Grant Hill and Chauncey Billups are trying to work their way back from injury, but one is closer than the other.
According to Broderick Turner of the Los Angeles Times, Chauncey Billups is closer to a return than Grant Hill. Turner said coach Vinnie Del Negro did not give a definite timetable for either player, but said Billups recovery from surgery in February is going well and he is closer to return. Hill is dealing with a bone bruise in his knee that has kept him out of action since the preseason.
Billups is entering his second year with the Clippers. Last season, he played in just 20 games before tearing his achilles tendon. He had surgery in February and has been rehabbing ever since. In those 20 games last season, Billups averaged 15.0 points per game. If he can get back on the court with Blake Griffin and Chris Paul, the Clippers instantly become better.
Hill came over as a free agent from the Phoenix Suns. He has battled foot injuries most of his career, but right now he is dealing with a bone bruise. He has averaged 17.1 points per game in his career. His production would just crank things up a notch offensively for Los Angeles.
The Clippers are hoping to have both players back and contributing, but they simply don't know when that will happen. In the meantime, the 2-2 Clippers will look to keep pace in the Pacific. They are currently tied with Golden State for first place.
