The Phoenix Suns were without two role players yesterday in the preseason opening loss to the Sacramento Kings. Both Sebastian Telfair and Shannon Brown sat out the opener with minor injuries as the Suns dropped the game 102-96.
According to Arizona Sports 620, Telfair was held out of the game du to a minor wrist injury that the team didn't want to risk aggravating. Brown missed the game after bumping heads with P.J. Tucker in practice Tuesday and requiring stitches. Neither injury is expected to keep Telfair or Brown out for significant time.
Telfair has bounced around the league and is now with his seventh NBA team in the Phoenix Suns. He was once one of the more hyped players coming into the league, but he has never developed into a star. In his career, Telfair is averaging 7.6 points per game and 3.6 assists per game.
Brown is also something of a journeyman in the NBA. The Suns are his fifth NBA team. In his six-year career, Brown is averaging 7.7 points per game and 1.8 rebounds per game. Last season with the Suns, he averaged 11.0 points per game.
The Suns are looking to rebuild after losing Amare Stoudemire and Steve Nash in the last few seasons. They will look to be competitive with a team of younger players including Telfair and Brown.
