The Dallas Mavericks have already been without Dirk Nowitzki for three straight preseason games. Yesterday, Rodrigue Beaubois also missed his third straight preseason game. The Mavericks fell to the Phoenix Suns last night 100-94, dropping their record in the preseason to 2-2.
According to the Dallas Morning News and Associated Press, Beaubois is battling an ankle sprain which has limited his practice and game time. Beaubois appears to have injured the ankle in the team's first preseason game.
Beaubois is in his fourth NBA season, all with the Mavericks. He was drafted out of France and did not play college ball. In his career, Beaubois is averaging 8.1 points per game, 2.1 assists per game, and 2.1 rebounds per game. He does not start often for the Mavericks but can provide a spark off the bench. He only started 12 of the 52 games he played in last season.
Beaubois is a role player, but he's not someone the Mavericks want to be without for too much longer. His 8.1 points per game could mean the difference between a win and a loss. The 24-year old guard allows the starters time to rest, he saves the team when someone is in foul trouble, and he is getting more and more playing time. Last season, he averaged a career-high 21.7 minutes per game.
