According to Eddie Sefko of the Dallas Morning News, Mayo fell down some steps in Barcelona. The team was playing an exhibition game in Spain and despite the injury, Mayo wanted to play. He did so, but he was ineffective and will sit until the hand heals. Coach Rick Carlisle regrets letting Mayo play.
"He shouldn’t have played in Barcelona. He wanted to, but it was a mistake on my part to let him."
Mayo is in his first season with the Dallas Mavericks. The former USC star played his first four professional seasons with the Memphis Grizzlies. He has averaged 5.7 points per game in his career which is a far cry from his performance in college. Mayo was one of the best college players around and was ultimately drafted 3rd overall.
Mayo's injury is not expected to be serious. He lost a chunk of skin in the fall which affected his ability to shoot in Barcelona. The Mavericks are hoping Mayo can step up their guard play this season and help the team back to the playoffs.Follow @hoopsinjurynews
