While much of the injury watch surrounding the Los AngelesLakers has been focused on center Dwight Howard, the team also received good
news regarding point guard Steve Blake. Steve Nash’s backup practiced
yesterday, rejoining the Lakers much sooner than expected, reports Dave McMenamin of ESPNLosAngeles.com:
"The kid's just tough as nails," Lakers coach Mike Brown said. "I don't know if he'll ever get out of shape. He only knows one way to play, which is hard, and he's worked extremely hard on his game this summer. Watching him, you couldn't tell that this was his first practice. He was Steve Blake."
Blake has been sidelined for the past week and half after
stepping on a spike strip in a Manhattan Beach parking lot. Los Angeles
initially expected Blake to miss up to three weeks due to the injury, but the
32-year-old was only out the first two Lakers’ practices.
Last year for the Lakers Blake averaged 6.9 points and 3.9
assists over 23.3 minutes per game.
