Lakers Injury News: Kobe and Dwight Not Expected to Play

Los Angeles Lakers stars Kobe Bryant and Dwight Howard are not expected to play in Wednesday's game against the crosstown Los Angeles Clippers. Kobe Bryant missed practice today with a bruised right foot. The injury came from a kick to the foot in the game against the Sacramento Kings and he's missed the last two practices. Dwight on the hand will be missing the game due to soreness in the back, possibly related to his back surgery this past summer. Melissa Rohlin of the LA Times quotes Kobe responding to questions about his foot.
"It's pretty sore," Bryant said, speaking in a monotone, clipped form.
What's the pain level of the foot?
"Pretty high," Bryant said.
To make it worse, Bryant said he would be out even if the game was during the regular season. A surprising and alarming statement since he's been through so much and his passion for the game overrides most setbacks.

It should not be a surprise that Dwight will be in and out of the season to start as he recovers fully from the surgery on his herniated disk. There will be spans where he just does not play to rest his back as to reduce the risk of re-injuring it.
