Lakers Injury News: Dwight Cleared to Play 5-on-5

Dwight Howard, whose surgery has brought up several questions, is reported to being cleared to play 5-on-5. HoopsWorld reporter Alex Kennedy says that Dwight will be able to play but with limited minutes.
Dwight Howard can now participate in 5-on-5 scrimmages and should be able to make his debut sometime in the near future. Howard isn't expected to play in the Los Angeles Lakers' second preseason game against the Portland Trail Blazers on Wednesday night. However, he may be available for the Lakers' third preseason game, which is on Saturday at home versus the Utah Jazz.
Dwight has long been the dominating anchor in the paint and on several occasions been distinguished as a Top 5, even Top 3, player in the game. A large contributor to that reputation has been his outstanding defensive presence, fueled by his freak athleticism. The power in the NBA was held on its edges as Dwightmare dragged on for months, numerous times being reportedly over, before the Lakers intervened and landed Dwight Howard in a blockbuster deal that once again made them a team to beat in the NBA.

In the lockout shortened season, Dwight grabbed 13.7 rebounds and slammed in 19.4 points per game in 54 games on 57.3% shooting. His free throw percentage was abysmal again at 49.1%, a career-low but also managed to block two shots a game.
