Mavericks Injury News: Dirk Nowitzki Sits Out With Knee Injury

The Dallas Mavericks are on a European tour as part of their preseason.  They took on Alba Berlin last Saturday and took on FC Barcelona Regal yesterday.  Yesterday, they were without star Dirk Nowitzki.  Nowitzki has been battling a sore right knee since Monday and sat out the game against FC Barcelona Regal.

According to Chuck Cooperstein of ESPN Dallas, Nowitzki saw his right knee swell up after practice on Monday and it has been sore ever since.  The Mavericks forward was held out of the loss yesterday to allow the knee some rest.

Nowitzki played 34 minutes in the team's game against Alba Berlin on Saturday and scored 11 points.  He helped Dallas to a victory in that contest.  However, in his absence yesterday, the Mavericks fell 99-85.  The team will return back to the States today after their week-long tour in Europe.  They will opn the regular season on October 30th against the Los Angeles Lakers in LA.

Nowitzki will be a key piece if the Mavericks are to make another run to the postseason.  Dallas won the NBA Championship in 2011 after beating the Miami Heat.  However, they were bounced in the first round this past season.  Nowitzki brings a career average of 22.9 points per game to the table.  Last season, he averaged 21.6 points per game and 6.8 rebounds per game.
